SAN MARCOS, San Diego County — November 4, 2026. The San Marcos mayoral race is separated by only 36 votes in the San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ Wednesday-morning unofficial count.
Current unofficial results
Sharon Jenkins has 10,781 votes and Mike Sannella has 10,745, placing the two candidates at approximately 50.1% and 49.9% in the ballots reported as of November 4. The margin is too narrow to treat as a final outcome. Separate from the mayoral race, City Council District 2 has its own exceptionally close count, reported previously by California58, between Justin Matsushita and Lindsey Smith. San Diego County officials estimated about 540,000 ballots remained outstanding countywide at the time of the early-November-4 update. Those are not all San Marcos ballots.
Counting continues
The results are preliminary; reporting precincts and completed election-night tabulation do not mean the county has finished counting all eligible mailed and provisional ballots. An official canvass and certification will determine final winners.
