SAN MARCOS, San Diego County — October 31, 2026. Families who use Corky Smith Gymnasium and the adjoining Boys & Girls Club should be aware of a heating and cooling upgrade that the city says is expected to continue into early 2027.
What is being replaced?
A City of San Marcos announcement dated October 7 scheduled the replacement of aging heating and air-conditioning equipment at the gymnasium and Boys & Girls Club, with work beginning Monday, October 12, 2026. The city said the project is expected to continue through February 2027.
This is an announced construction schedule, not proof that crews are present in every area on every day. The update also does not establish that all programs will be canceled for the full project period.
What should parents and regular visitors do?
People traveling to a class, youth activity, organized game or community event should check the current schedule with the program operator before leaving home. Participants should also observe temporary signs or restricted areas around construction equipment.
The purpose of the project is to renew building systems that affect comfort and operation of an indoor recreation facility. A replacement can require phased work, but residents should not assume particular shutdown dates without an updated notice from the city or the organization running the activity.
Where to find updates
The city’s official website provides news, parks information and a citywide contact number, 760-744-1050. Anyone enrolled in a Boys & Girls Club program should confirm changes with that program directly; city construction reporting is not a substitute for its daily operating announcements.
